Johanna Meier, who was born in 1982, is a student of modern German literature, English philology and modern history (M.A.). During her year abroad at Paris Diderot University, she decided to focus on the study of drama. She has continued this path in her advanced study period, concentrating in particular on contemporary German drama.
In the winter semester of 2006/7, Johanna started the group Zeitgenossen and produced the piece of contemporary drama ‘Todesvariationen’ by Jon Fosse which was performed in Freiburg University’s Peterhofkeller. In January of 2008, the group organized a student drama festival in the arts center ‘Z’, in Peterhofkeller, and in Freiburg’s playhouse: the ‘ct-Festival’ (named after the abbreviation of Latin ‘cum tempore’, meaning that a lecture or seminar at Freiburg University actually starts 15 minutes later than the time given in the programme of lectures) where Johanna directed ‘Kleidertausch’, a performance dealing with encounters between the Orient and the West. With the completion of internships at Freiburg theatre and the state theatre at Bregenz as well as her involvement in the student drama group ‘Frischfleisch’, which regularly produces contemporary works at Freiburg theatre, Johanna has gained substantial experience in the field of drama. The subject of her dissertation is the personification of death in twentieth-century German drama.
Johanna is in charge of performance concepts, press relations and the acquisition of donations.
